RESEARCH PROJECTS:
PROJECT 1: OSHA Grant number: SH-26316-SH4, a division of the Susan Harwood Grant for a "Train-the-Trainer" program involving safety in Structural Steel Fabricator and Supply companies. In partnership with Michigan State University, The University of Puerto Rico, and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). Topics in this program include: musculoskeletal safety, respiratory safety, electrical safety (lock-out/tag-out), material handling, hazard communication, personal protective equipment, and worker's rights (including whistle-blower protection laws). For more information on this program please visit the Michigan State University School of Planning Design and Construction website, under the "training & workshops" tab. (This project was developed from September 2014 - March 2015, with presentations of the program conducted in the Summer of 2015).
PROJECT 2: The Sustainable Park Planning Project began on Belle Isle, Michigan in 2013. The Michigan State University School of Planning, Design, and Construction partnered with the Michigan DNR after they gained control of Belle Isle as a State Park. Through the MI-DNR, select buildings on Belle Isle were suggested to do an energy assessment and energy audit. The students of the School of Planning, Design, and Construction that were involved in the project then began to take field measurements, begin energy simulations, and use formulas to then give the MI-DNR a list of recommendations to upgrade their buildings on the Isle to not only make them energy efficient, but to make them once again accessible to the public and increase tourism to the Isle. The project is now on its 4th building on the Isle (buildings that have been completed for assessment include the Police Station, the White House, the Flynn Pavilion, and now the Police Radio Station). All findings are then published and presented to the MI-DNR. (My participation with this project began in January of 2015, and is on-going).
PROJECT 3: Personal research project in the field of environmental related white-collar corporate crime and environmental catastrophes. Compilation of construction and environmental related catastrophes with multiple fatalities since 1950. (this project began in September 2016 and is on-going.)
PROJECT 4: Return on Investment of Anti-Counterfeiting, Brand Protection and Product Protection Barcoding Measures and Metrics (began Fall 2016 - Fall 2017)
PROJECT 5: Research conducted under a 2013 HELP Grant, titled: "Growing Trends in Single-Family Subdivisions for Rent". Academic Publication Forthcoming, Published by the Michigan State Housing Education Research Initiative, April 2018.
